Wallace State men’s golf finishes 3rd in WSCC Fall Invitational

HANCEVILLE – Wallace State’s men’s golf team finished third in the 2016 Wallace State Fall Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday at Cross Creek Golf Course.

Wallace State’s Garrett Senia finished runner-up individually after Eastern Florida’s Brad Bawden outlasted Senia in a one-hole playoff. Both Senia and Bawden carded a 7-under par 209 after 54 holes.

As a group, Wallace State shot an even-par 864 at the two-day event. The Lions opened the tournament with a 5-under 283 during the opening 18 holes on Monday and shot a 288 over the next 18. They carded a 293 during Tuesday’s final round.

Wallace State entered as the two-time defending Fall Invitational champion.

Central Alabama won this year’s event with a 12-under 852. Mississippi Gulf Coast finished as the runner-up, carding a 7-under 857. Bawden and Eastern Florida State finished fourth with a 3-over 864.

Wallace State’s Brandon Lacasse (71-71-73) and Trey Hanvey (74-70-71) finished tied for 7th individually, each carding a 1-under 215. Thomas Gevas (70-77-79) and B.J. Scott (72-72-82) each finished with a 226 for the Lions.

The Wallace State Fall Invitational marked the inaugural tournament for new Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) golf foes Calhoun, Snead State and Jeff State.

Faulkner State, Andrew (Ga.) College and East Mississippi CC rounded out the tournament field.

The NJCAA District 4 Preview tournament is next on the fall schedule for Wallace State, beginning Sept. 25 in Brewton.
