CULLMAN – Football season has officially arrived. Time for kickoffs and tailgate parties. Time to throw back some beers with friends while cheering on your favorite sports team. With this season comes something to make it even more spectacular: Cullman City Parks and Recreation Department’s yearly Clucknbrew.

The Clucknbrew event is every football fan’s (or even non-football fan’s) dream. Wings, locally-brewed beer and multiple TV screens featuring every SEC college football game will be the lineup for Saturday, Sept. 17. The community event will be held at Depot Park and start around 3 p.m. and go to about 10 p.m. or when the last game finishes up. The Alabama v. Ole Miss game will kick off the games at 2:30, but the wings and other activities will start at 3. The Auburn v. Texas A&M game will begin at 6 p.m.

Waid Harbison, marketing, programs, & events coordinator at CP&R said, “It (Clucknbrew) started a few years ago. We do a lot of events, the Strawberry Festival, Midnight Run, but this is just something that is a little bit different than our other events. I think of it as a big community tailgate party; we’ll have the different brewed beers, and lots of different businesses will be cooking up wings. This way you can get out of the house and the bar and join the community in watching the games.”

The good news is you will not have to cook! Different businesses from all around Cullman County will be offering up their very best wings for you to buy on ‘Wing Street.’ The even better news is if you do love to cook you can enter to prepare your ‘special ingredient’ wings in the annual Wings Street Cook-Off. All wings will be $1 per wing. If you would like to join the other wing vendors on Wing Street, call the Cullman Civic Center at 256-734-9157, but hurry, there are only a few spots left!

CP&R is partnering with Cabin Fever Beverages to offer a variety of beers and specialty drinks to go along with your wings. There will be a bar under the Game Day Tent and several places around Depot Park where you will be able to buy drinks.

This will not be an adult-only occasion. Clucknbrew will have a ‘kids’ zone’ area so the little people of Cullman County will have as much fun as the big people. The parks department will have inflatables, slides, a sand pit, sidewalk chalk, hula hoops and bubble fun! They will also have amusing games like corn hole, mega-size jenga and mega-size checkers. The department is pulling out all the stops and will have their gaming truck onsite, so kids can play their favorite video games on the newest gaming consoles.

There will be many different contests and activities throughout the entire afternoon. The Wing Street Cook-Off will have two separate contests, one for businesses and one for individuals.

All proceeds from the wings and beer sales will go to CP&R’s Connected Park project. According to CP&R, the Connected Park will be a park for people of all abilities, including children with special needs or limited physical abilities.

The parks department has been diligently working to raise money to start work on the park. They have reached their halfway mark and are hoping to start construction on the park next year.

Join Cullman under the Game Day Tent to watch all of the best college football games next Saturday! We’ll cheer each team on as we sip on a good brew and chow down on some of the best wings in the county.
