CULLMAN – The Cullman County Republican Women (CCRW) have announced that newly-elected Speaker of the Alabama House of Representatives, Rep. Mac McCutcheon, R-Monrovia will be the special guest speaker at their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 13.

“We are very pleased that the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mac McCutcheon, will be coming to Cullman,” said Maureen Chaney, program chairman for the CCRW.

“This will be one of his first speeches since being elected Speaker of the House,” said Chaney. “We are looking forward to Speaker McCutcheon breaking down the events in the Alabama Legislature.”

The event will take place at 6 p.m. on Sept. 13 at the Cullman VFW, located at 112 Veterans Drive SW.

“We are very excited to hear from our new Speaker of the House and his plans for the future as we deal with some difficult issues in our state,” said CCRW member Christy Turner. “We are hopeful in our future as we all work together to make Alabama the best it can be!”

McCutcheon, a retired police officer, was elected Speaker of the House on Aug. 15, two months after a jury convicted former House Speaker Mike Hubbard on ethics charges. Hubbard was automatically removed from office.

“This event is free and open to the public,” said Chaney. “This should be of interest to everyone as he is a leader in our state and we hope to have a good group present to welcome him to Cullman.”
