National Weather Service issues heat advisory

HUNTSVILLE – The National Weather Service in Huntsville has just issued a heat advisory for the counties of  LAUDERDALE-COLBERT-FRANKLIN AL-LAWRENCE-LIMESTONE-MADISON-MORGAN- MARSHALL-CULLMAN-LINCOLN- INCLUDING THE CITIES OF…FLORENCE…MUSCLE SHOALS…SHEFFIELD… TUSCUMBIA…RUSSELLVILLE…RED BAY…MOULTON…TOWN CREEK… ATHENS…HUNTSVILLE…DECATUR…ALBERTVILLE…BOAZ… GUNTERSVILLE…ARAB…CULLMAN…FAYETTEVILLE

The heat advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. on Friday until 7 p.m. on Saturday. 

Afternoon temperatures will be in the range of 95-99 degrees, with heat index values of 105-108 degrees.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity levels will be dangers for those spending time outdoors or in a facility with no air conditioning. Heal-related illnesses are possible. Take extra precautions if you work or spending time outside. If possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

Check on relatives and neighbors. Absolutely DO NOT LEAVE CHILDREN OR PETS UNATTENDED IN VEHICLES!

The NWS has also issued a hazardous weather outlook for the area for today and tomorrow, due to extreme heat.
