CULLMAN – Jason Neal today announced his candidacy for re-election to the Cullman City School Board, Place 4.  If elected, this will be Neal’s third term.

Neal is a lifelong resident of the Cullman area.  He and his wife, Stephanie Davis Neal, have three children- Auston, a 2014 graduate of Cullman High School and a junior in college; Jordan, a 2016 graduate of Cullman High School and a freshman at Wallace State; and Olivia, a sophomore at Cullman High School.

“With a child currently in the city school system and two children who have graduated, I have a dedicated interest in the education of the children in Cullman City Schools,” said Neal. “I feel that I could continue to provide strong leadership to help the board and the administration advance our outstanding school system into the future.  In my previous terms I have made sure that decisions made by the school board are about what is best for the children of Cullman, and (I) believe that that remains the priority of the board.”

Neal, who currently serves as the board president, counts the following among his most notable accomplishments in his last eight years with the board:

  • New Academic and Family Life and Arts Building
  • Blue Ribbon School Award
  • Science Building Addition
  • Football Stadium at the High School
  • Practice Gym
  • Renovated entrance and gym air conditioning at the Middle School
  • Remodeling of bathrooms and hallways at East Elementary School

  • One of five school systems in the state to maintain control of their Head Start program during and after Sequestration budget cuts
  • Creation and adoption of Five-Year Strategic Plan
  • Consolidation of District Administrative positions
  • Reserve fund balance maintained at almost three months (State requires one month)
  • Increased Fine Arts offerings
  • Increased funding for extracurricular activities

Neal and his family are active members First Baptist Church, where he serves on the finance committee.  He is an agency owner for Liberty National Life Insurance Company in Cullman and has worked with the company since 1993.  Neal received his Bachelor of Science degree in business management from the University of North Alabama in 1992.

Neal says he has served the youth of the community by coaching various sports in the Cullman area, where he has had the opportunity to encourage children to develop to their full potential.  “It is my desire to continue this service with re-election to the school board and to expand these opportunities to all children in Cullman City Schools.”
