CULLMAN – Cullman seniors danced the night away last night at the Donald E. Green Senior Center. Lacey Snider and J.D. Pollard entertained the crowd at the free show, which was part of the Jammin’ in the Gym concert series.

Jammin’ in the Gym is a program sponsored by Cullman City Parks and Recreation. It is mainly geared toward the senior members of the community, but people of all ages are more than welcome to join in on the fun.

“This is one of four concerts that we’ve had,” said Angie Jochum, director of senior programs for CP&R. “They started the first week in June, and there has been a concert every Tuesday night from 6-8 p.m. Our last concert is next Tuesday, June 28th. We are going to have the Sentimental Journey Shriner’s Band. They will be playing big band music from the 1940s, so people that like that kind of music should love it. We have had over 100 people come out to each of the concerts so far. You can’t beat them; they are free and are inside the gym where it’s nice and cool.”

Lacey Snider started off the show. She sang her heart out and people really enjoyed her rendition of the country oldies, especially her Brenda Lee, Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn songs. J.D. Pollard ended the night with his famous Conway Twitty Tribute. It was a great night of music, dancing and all out fun.

“I came out tonight to listen to the Patsy Cline music as well as all the other country music they are performing,” said Pat Shoup. “I stopped by the Senior Center and picked up one of the fliers that had the concert information on it. My friend is down from Tennessee. Her name is Kathy and we were in the Women’s Army Corps together – Go Army! I brought her with me so we could listen to the music together. I thought it was going to be outside, but this is great. I love to watch the dancers, they are amazing.

“Cullman is a great place to live; there are lots of things for families,” she added. “I am planning on coming back to next week’s concert. I’m sorry I missed the ‘50s show with the Fairlanes; I meant to come then but missed it.”

This week’s Jammin in the Gym was a hit! People sang along with each entertainer and enjoyed the music. If you haven’t made it to one of the concerts at the Donald E. Green Senior Center yet, better mark your calendars for next week!

The Jammin’ in the Gym Concert Series will have its final concert of the season on Tuesday, June 28 from 6-8 p.m. Sentimental Journey will be the night’s entertainment and will be playing big band music. The concert is free to attend and will be happening at the Donald E. Green Senior Center located at 1625 Cleveland Ave. SW in Cullman. Bring your family, your friends and your lawn chairs!
