CULLMAN – Earlier this week Cullman County Sheriff Office investigators arrested David Eric Evans, 37, of Cullman, and James David Holmes, 51, of Bremen, for eight counts of third-degree burglary. The suspects also have numerous charges pending in Cullman County, Winston County and the City of Hartselle.

Evans and Holmes were first detained on May 18, 2016 when Cullman City Narcotics investigators initiated a traffic stop and arrested the suspects for unlawful possession of controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, fourth-degree receiving stolen property and possession of burglary tools. After CCSO investigators interviewed the suspects they linked them to several burglaries in the northern part of Cullman County as well as Winston and Morgan Counties. It appears the suspects would burglarize homes in the tri-county area and then take the stolen items to “Lacon Trade Day” where they would sell the stolen items.

Some of the items Evans and Holmes stole have been recovered by CCSO investigators, including guns, jewelry, rare coins, power tools and other items. CCSO investigators are recovering property on a daily basis.

“I am proud of the job our investigators and the Cullman City Narcotics investigators did in working together to arrest these thieves and solve this tri-county burglary operation,” said Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry. “I would also like to thank the investigators from the Winston County Sheriff’s Office and the Hartselle Police Department who also assisted in this operation."

Evans is currently being held in the Cullman County Detention Center on a $74,000 bond.

Holmes has already made bond.
