CULLMAN – On Saturday, April 2, The Factory Dance Productions of Cullman will begin what it hopes to make a biennial (every other year) tradition. The Factory will conduct what it has named the “Dancing for a Cause” competition, which will start at 6 p.m. and go until 7 p.m. in the Cullman High School auditorium.

“It is a play on the name “Dancing with the Stars,” said Nohealani Naehu, co-founder and co-owner of The Factory Dance Productions in Cullman.

Along with her partner, Keri Payne, Naehu started the event as an effort to benefit the performing arts in Cullman, as well as local charities.

Tickets for the event are $10 for adults $8 for children. Infants get free admission. All the proceeds from ticket sales and donations go to local charities and to keeping the doors open and the lights on at The Factory.

In fact, although registration for those interested in competing in the event is closed, those who are registered and who will be competing will be vying for the top prize, which is designating the largest cash donation to the local charity of their choice.

“We would really like for anyone and everyone to come and attend. We would really like to have your support,” Neahu said.

Neahu’s partner Payne got the idea for this event from one she started in another part of Alabama.

“I helped start ‘Dancing with the Starz of the Shoals’ about three years ago in Florence, and it has become a huge success! It is a fun tradition that we hope to continue in the Cullman area every other year,” Payne said about the event. “Promoting the art of dance is very important to me, and this particular event is community-driven so everyone can come together to celebrate dance and several area charities! It is sure to be a fun, laid back evening for everyone,” she continued.

Tickets will be available at the door the night of the event at the CHS auditorium.
