CULLMAN — On September 24 Cullman became home to Alabama’s largest watermelon. Weighing in at 243 pounds, Daniel White’s mammoth fruit holds the new state record. As a result of all his hard work, he was awarded a blue ribbon at the Cullman County Fair, along with a wealth of praise and pats on the back.

Before White’s watermelon took the top spot, Bessemer’s Spencer Glasgow held the state's 241.5-pound record.

An enormous amount of hard work and dedication goes into growing watermelons this size, which have to be moved with a forklift and can feed around 600 people.
