CULLMAN – The winter storm of 2015 is upon us and people of all ages have been outside enjoying the massive amounts of fluffy white snow for the past two days. It is not very often we get this kind of weather in Alabama, therefore, we don’t always know what to do in order to be safe.

While playing in the snow, make sure to wear proper footwear. Wear shoes with heavy treading and a flat bottom that puts your entire foot on the surface of the ground. Make sure to walk consciously on icy sidewalks and parking lots as you may slip and fall.

Be sure to anticipate ice. What appears to be wet pavement may be black ice, so approach it with extreme caution. When walking down steps, take them slowly and deliberately. Plant your feet securely on each step and be sure to have a firm grip on the handrail.

Watch out for ice. Be aware of what you’re walking under. Falling snow and ice can cause terrible injuries.

Snow like this rarely happens here in Cullman. Enjoy it with your family and friends. Make a big snowman and throw snowballs. But more than anything else, be safe and stay as warm as possible.
