CULLMAN, Ala. – Earlier this month, the 2019 People Against a Littered State (PALS) Governor’s Award for Law Enforcement went to Sheriff Matt Gentry and the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office for its dedication to picking up litter on Cullman County roads.

CCSO deputies and Cullman County Detention Center inmates had, as of the date of the award, helped remove more than 48,275 pounds of trash from 217 miles of roads in Cullman County. The CCSO also picked up 3,209 pounds of scrap and cans from Cullman County roadways, which resulted in $533.97 being donated to Cullman Caring for Kids.

“This is truly a team award for all the deputies and personnel who worked hard to clean up our county,” said Gentry. “I really believe it’s better to have these non-violent inmates cleaning our roads than just sitting in jail.”
