CULLMAN, Ala. – Conversations about history, language and the people behind one of Cullman’s historic institutions are at the heart of “The Benedictine Beat,” a new podcast from St. Bernard Preparatory School.

The short podcast invites listeners from Cullman and surrounding communities to get to know the school’s teachers, staff, coaches and others through relaxed, personal conversations. Each episode explores their backgrounds and interests, with topics that reach beyond campus life.

The first episode features James Griffin, a history teacher at St. Bernard who also works as a lawyer. The conversation covers his background, how history and law connect and why studying the past helps us understand human nature.

The second episode features Brother Damien Jackson, O.S.B., a Latin teacher at St. Bernard. It explores how language, monastic life and Benedictine traditions can offer lessons that extend beyond the classroom.

Listeners do not need a connection to St. Bernard to enjoy the series. Whether they are interested in history, curious about life at a boarding school or simply enjoy hearing people’s stories, “The Benedictine Beat” offers an opportunity to learn more about their neighbors.

Founded in 1891, St. Bernard Preparatory School is a Catholic college-preparatory day and boarding school for students in grades seven through 12. The school follows the Benedictine tradition and emphasizes academic excellence, personal growth, faith and community.

Future episodes will introduce more members of the school community, sharing the experiences and perspectives they bring to their work and daily lives.
