BEAR CREEK, Ala. – The 1A second- ranked Addison Bulldogs traveled to rainy James E. Glass Stadium to take on the 1-2 Phillips Bears in a region contest. It wasn’t really a contest, as Addison dominated the undermanned Bears, who only dressed 15 players. The game was never in doubt and the second half was cut to eight-minute quarters (instead of 12) and the clock was running. Addison rolled to a 52-0 victory.

Phillips never crossed midfield and had only one first down on the night. The Bears had -14 yards of offense for the entire game.

On the Bears’ first offensive play, Bulldog Scout Flynn crushed the running back and the ball went backward and was recovered by Noah Brenton after a 14-yard loss. On the Bulldogs’ first play, Zane Smith went untouched 11 yards into the end zone for the first of many Bulldog touchdowns on the night. Smith had a career night. The extra point was missed and Addison led 6-0.

After forcing a punt on Phillips’ next possession, Addison had an Elijah Roberts to Judah Wilkins’ 64-yard touchdown pass called back on a penalty.   Roberts wasn’t disturbed by that and found Smith, this time on a 69-yard touchdown pass.   The extra point was no good and Addison led 12-0 still in the first quarter.

Phillips found their groove and had their best drive of the game on their next possession.  Facing a foruth-and-5 from their own 30, Phillips’ punter faked the punt and ran for 15 yards for the first down. The Bulldogs defense answered, and on the Bears’ next five plays they lost 12 yards. The drive ended at their own 32-yard line on a Robert Gilmore Jr. sack.

It took Addison three plays, a long drive for them on the night, when Wilkins finally got his touchdown on a 10-yard run. Connor Lane kicked the extra point and Addison led 19-0 still in the first quarter.

After another Bear drive gained -5 yards, Addison took over and on their first play, Roberts found Wilkins for 51 yards and a touchdown.  The Lane extra point made it Addison 26, Phillips 0 at the end of the first quarter.

Phillips punted again, and it took the Bulldogs two plays to score as Smith scored his third touchdown of the night, this time from 3 yards out.  The play was set up by a Roberts 33-yard run.  The extra point was no good and Addison stretched the lead to 32-0.

Phillips went for it again on fourth down at their own 14 and failed to gain the first down.   On the very next play, Smith scored from the 5-yard line for his fourth TD on the night. With the Lane extra point, Addison led 39-0 in the second quarter. This is how the half would end.

The second half was played with a running clock and shorter quarters.  Addison received the second half kickoff and after a dropped pass, Roberts went 70 yards for the Bulldog touchdown. The extra point was no good and Addison led 45-0.

The Bears gained 3 yards on their drive and punted. After a Tanner Gaither 14-yard run, Joey Wilson scooted, ducked, dodged and ducked his way 31 yards for a touchdown. The Lane extra point was good and the ‘Dawgs pushed the lead to 52-0.  This would be how the game would end.

Addison moves to 4-0 (2-0 region) and will host county and region rival Meek Tigers next Friday. The first-team Addison defense has surrendered zero points through four games, with the entire defense giving up only seven total points this season.
