CULLMAN, Ala. – With Cullman becoming a hotspot for all things baseball and softball, more facilities and offerings are quickly becoming available for those looking to develop or hone their skills.
One such new facility is The Bullpen, which offers indoor training opportunities for athletes of all ages and experience levels, including individual and team rentals, private instruction, group classes and specialized training.
The facility has approximately a dozen baseball and softball instructors, including former Division I athletes and state champions, along with strength and conditioning and speed and agility coaches. Instruction is available in hitting, pitching, catching and fielding, allowing athletes to work with experienced instructors while targeting specific areas of their game.
Owner Tamara Gourley said the goal is to provide athletes with a comfortable environment where they can put in the work regardless of their age or experience.
“We wanted something everyone, that’s affordable for everyone,” Gourley said. “We want all athletes of every age and experience level to have a comfortable place to hone their skills and get better.”
Costs vary based on the instructor, with most baseball and softball lessons costing $60 for at least an hour. Many instructors also offer 30-minute lessons for $40. Individual batting cages can be rented for 30-minute or one-hour sessions, with one-hour sessions costing $40. Gourley said renters may be able to continue using a cage beyond their reserved time when no one is waiting, as the cages are not controlled by timers.
Teams can also rent the building, typically in two-hour increments, and monthly team memberships are available. The Bullpen offers birthday and team party rentals, generally providing three to four hours of facility use.
While baseball and softball are at the center of The Bullpen’s offerings, Gourley stressed that the facility isn’t limited to competitive athletes.
“The Bullpen isn’t just for current athletes; it’s for anyone and everyone,” she said. “An adult who wants to hit some balls and release some stress or just have a little nostalgia, date nights or just because it’s something that they never did before.”
The facility’s strength and conditioning and speed and agility programs are also not limited to baseball and softball players, opening those training opportunities to athletes from other sports.
“We have so many talented instructors at The Bullpen to help with every age and experience level,” she said. “Anyone can reach out and let me help them. Need bulk packages not listed? Ask me, because I’m sure we can come up with an affordable option. Have an organization that needs something for multiple teams/ages? We do that too. We want a place that can accommodate and develop players across the board.”
The Bullpen also plans to periodically offer specials on facility use and training. A recent summer promotion offered unlimited individual cage rentals for six weeks, with additional specials expected in the future.
The Bullpen is open Monday-Wednesday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Thursday from 7 a.m.-midnight, Friday from midnight-7 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m.-7 p.m.
