CULLMAN CO., Ala. — Fairview opened a 16-point lead in the first quarter and held off Hayden 19-12 at home Friday night, while Hanceville and West Point dropped road games at Tanner and Cleburne County.
Fairview 19, Hayden 12
Fairview scored 16 unanswered points in the opening quarter and eventually stretched its lead to 19-0 before Hayden mounted a second-half comeback.
Jon Short scored on a touchdown run and quarterback Conner Scott connected with Collin Nelson for a long touchdown pass. Walker Gentry supplied a pair of field goals for the Aggies.
Scott also made an impact on defense, intercepting two Hayden passes.
The Tigers scored six points in the third quarter and six more in the fourth, cutting Fairview’s lead to 19-12 with 4:24 remaining. The Aggies protected the seven-point margin the rest of the way to improve to 2-0.
Fairview will travel to Scottsboro on Friday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m.
Tanner 35, Hanceville 6
Hanceville’s only points came from its defense as Tanner pulled away for a 35-6 home victory.
Nick Davis returned an interception for a touchdown during the first half, but the Bulldogs were unable to generate any additional scoring.
Tanner running backs Torr’e Pride and Isaiah Pryor combined for 208 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Pride finished with 78 yards and two scores, while Pryor ran for 130 yards and a touchdown.
Kaden Freeman connected with Amari Moore for another Tanner touchdown and King Tyree returned a kickoff for a score. The win gave the Rattlers their first 2-0 start since 2015.
Hanceville fell to 0-2 and will travel to Vinemont on Friday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m.
Cleburne County 49, West Point 7
Cleburne County built a 35-7 halftime lead and shut out West Point during the second half to secure a 49-7 victory in Heflin.
West Point reached the end zone late in the second quarter when quarterback Max Patterson connected with Bryant Moon for a touchdown pass.
The Tigers added 14 unanswered points after halftime, dropping the Warriors to 0-2.
West Point will return home to host Priceville on Friday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m.
