CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman City Schools has been named a 2026 Alabama School Counseling Program of Distinction District by the Alabama School Counselor Association (ALSCA), recognizing the district for having all five schools earn the Alabama School Counseling Program of Distinction.
The state distinction recognizes schools with comprehensive, data-driven counseling programs aligned with best practices and focused on supporting students’ academic, career and social-emotional development.
Four Cullman City schools earned the distinction during the 2024–2025 school year and went on to earn the Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) designation from the American School Counselor Association during the 2025–2026 school year. RAMP is a national recognition for schools that successfully implement the ASCA National Model and demonstrate measurable outcomes in their counseling programs.
East Elementary applied for the Alabama School Counseling Program of Distinction during the 2025–2026 school year and was notified this summer that it had earned the distinction. With East’s recognition, all five Cullman City schools now hold the state designation, resulting in the district’s 2026 Alabama School Counseling Program of Distinction District recognition.
In its congratulatory notification to the district, ALSCA stated, “On behalf of everyone involved in this process, we are so proud to recognize your district’s excellence in school counseling.”
“This recognition is a tremendous reflection of the commitment and professionalism of our school counselors,” said Cullman City Schools Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff. “They work every day to ensure our students have the support, guidance and opportunities they need to be successful academically, personally and in their future careers.”
Both East Elementary and Cullman City Schools will receive their awards at the ALSCA Awards Breakfast on Oct. 2.
