Obituary: Jimmy D. Dill

Jimmy D. Dill, 76, passed away surrounded by his family on August 18, 2026. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud Pop.

Jimmy was a 1968 graduate of Bessemer High School. He then served the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He went on to attend the University of Montevallo and have a successful career as a field support engineer. He retired from Carl Zeiss Meditec, Inc., where he was named Field Service Engineer of the Year and received a Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding service and dedication for over 25 years.

Jimmy was known for his kindness and wit and always had a joke ready to tell. He was very skilled with computers and was known to be able to fix anything. He loved aviation and enjoyed flying RC aircrafts with Cullman Aeromodelers. He served the Lord all of his life and loved going to church. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Flora Mae Dill; brothers, Bill Dill, Charles “Bo” Dill, and Joe Dill; sister, Betty Dill Hadaway; brother-in-law, L.C. Smith; and stepson, Wade Harris.

He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Loretta Dill; daughters, Amy Dill Isbell (Brandon) and Lori Dill Watts (Eric); stepdaughter, Suzie Woodard (Wade); grandchildren, Olivia Isbell, Elliot Isbell, Emori Cummings, Gunnar Watts, Billy Gordon, Melisa Harris, Stacy Harris, and Caleb McCoy; multiple great grandchildren; sister, Barbara Dill Davis; sisters-in-law, Wanda Smith and Becky Mims (Tim); brothers-in-law, James Braden (Annie) and Steven Braden; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Services to honor Jimmy’s life will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., with the service to follow at 11 a.m. with his son-in-law, Brandon Isbell, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Guinns Cove Cemetery in Hayden, AL.
