Obituary: J.D. Smith

J.D. was born in Cullman and grew up in the Pleasant Grove community. He attended East Point and Cullman schools. As a young man, he began a career as a brick mason, a trade in which he was able to provide for his family. Known for his integrity, hard work, and exceptional craftsmanship, J.D. laid brick on countless homes and businesses throughout Cullman and the surrounding communities.

J.D. was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He deeply loved and cared for his wife, children, extended family, and friends. He especially enjoyed camping with family and friends, as well as fishing, hunting, and gardening. He took particular pleasure in growing hot peppers, cantaloupes, and watermelons.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Wanda Sue Smith; his daughter, Sharon Aldijaili; and his grandchildren, Derrick, Alyssa, Alannah, and Christine.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roxie and Bannie Smith, his son, Steven Smith and his brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held on August 20, 2026. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Cullman Funeral Home, with the funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Center Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Wade Maynard will officiate.

Flowers are not necessary but are welcome.
