VINEMONT, Ala. – The Vinemont Town Council held its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Tuesday, July 7, at the Vinemont Town Hall.
During the work session, council members reviewed preliminary plans for a proposed expansion of Vinemont Town Hall. The project would add approximately 1,300 square feet, providing additional office space and a larger council meeting room. Officials discussed preliminary drawings for the expansion and a projected budget of approximately $210,000.
Council members also discussed participation in the Cullman Area Chamber’s upcoming Washington, D.C., Fly-In, where Mayor Bonnie Goodwin, Town Clerk Kayecea Sasser and Public Works Director Mike Graves are expected to meet with federal representatives to advocate for funding to expand U.S. Highway 31 from two lanes to four lanes between the intersection of U.S. Highway 31 and Old Highway 31 to the former bark plant on U.S. Highway 31.
“Our local infrastructure plays a vital role in safety, economic growth and quality of life. Securing additional funding could help address critical roadway repairs and upgrades without placing undue strain on our local budgets,” said Sasser. “We believe that direct engagement with federal agencies and representatives could significantly improve our chances of obtaining these funds and having them earmarked for this project. We have already gathered support from our surrounding municipalities and some of our county/state level agencies and representatives.”
The council approved the trip during the official meeting.
Additionally, the council adopted Resolution No. 2026-07-01, declaring a surplus town-owned item that will be sold through GovDeals.
Annexation efforts also remained a topic of discussion. Council members announced plans to host a community meeting for residents interested in learning more about potential annexation into the town. The meeting is scheduled for Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Vinemont Community Center.
The meeting concluded with updates on an upcoming community event:
- Senior Citizens Day – July 20, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Vinemont Community Center
The next meeting of the Vinemont Town Council will be Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Vinemont Town Hall. The work session will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the regular meeting to follow at 6.
