CULLMAN, Ala. – Two people have been arrested in connection with the Wednesday, July 1, shooting incident at Smith Lake Park, according to the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office. The CCSO said investigators obtained arrest warrants Thursday, July 2, for Michael David Hughes, 20, and Kimbley Michelle Cobb, 20, both from Cullman.
Both were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Cullman County Detention Center.
Hughes and Cobb are each charged with attempted murder and shooting into a vehicle.
Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry commended the investigators and deputies involved in the case.
“The safety of our community remains our highest priority,” Gentry said. “I am extremely proud of our investigators and deputies for their outstanding work in identifying these suspects and taking them into custody.”
No additional details were immediately released.
After the incident occurred on July 1, the CCSO said: “On July 1, at approximately 3:30 p.m. deputies with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Smith Lake Park following reports of a civil disturbance involving multiple individuals. During the incident, occupants of one vehicle discharged a firearm toward another vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.”
All persons are innocent until proven guilty.
