Mr. Jerry Dale Holmes, age 65, of Arab, Alabama, passed away at his home in the early morning hours of Thursday, June 25, 2026. Born on November 29, 1960, in Marshall County, Alabama, Jerry was the son of Gordon Holmes and Sue Holmes.
Jerry spent much of his life in service to others. He served more than thirty-two years with the Arab Fire Department, retiring as Captain. His dedication, courage, and leadership earned the respect of his fellow firefighters and the community he proudly served. Jerry had a gift for making people feel welcome; he never met a stranger, and many who met him quickly became his friend.
Following his retirement, Jerry enjoyed collecting antique fire department memorabilia, a hobby that reflected his longtime connection to the fire service. He also loved spending time in the Smoky Mountains, watching older television shows, and cheering for Auburn football.
Jerry is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Adam and April Holmes; daughter, Leslie Holmes; brother, William Holmes and his wife, Tammy; sisters, Shelia Hancock and Pam Farmer and her husband, John; grandson, Cannon Green; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mona Lafell McClendon-Holmes, who passed away on July 22, 2017; and by his parents, Gordon and Sue Holmes.
Services for Jerry will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 12 p.m., with the funeral service following at 2 p.m. Brother Jeff Warren will officiate. Interment will be in Union Hill FCM Church Cemetery. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
