HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Shirley Burden Public Library in Hanceville will welcome Hanceville Assistant Fire Chief Bart Absher Wednesday, June 24, at 10 a.m. for a special storytime event. Children are asked to bring a bathing suit and towel and prepare to have fun!
“Bart Absher will be coming to share about safety in the home, what to do in case of fire and fire prevention,” Library Manager Teresa Rivera said. “He is very knowledgeable and we are excited to have him.”
Rivera said the department offers a program for free fire alarms and Absher will go over the specifics to qualify for them.
“He keeps the children captivated during the program and they go outside in the back area of the library where the fire truck is parked and they check out the details,” Rivera said. “Last, they turn on the water and the children play and enjoy themselves.”
Rivera said this is the library’s June finale for the summer reading program, and they will serve pizza and drinks after the event.
“The pizza is coming from Reyes Pizza, a local Hanceville favorite,” Rivera said. “Sodas were donated by Pepsi in Decatur for the summer program. This should be a hot summer day filled with fun and laughter.”
The Shirley Burden Public Library is located at 201 Commercial St. Hanceville. The library is open Tuesday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (closed from noon-1 p.m.) and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Call 256-352-0685 or follow Facebook/Hanceville Public Library for event details.
