Welti Elementary classes canceled Wednesday, Thursday after fire in K1 building

CULLMAN, Ala. – Classes at Welti Elementary School have been canceled for Wednesday, May 6, and Thursday, May 7, following a fire in the school’s K1 building Tuesday afternoon, according to Cullman County Schools.

When addressing the fire Tuesday afternoon, Cullman County Schools said all students were safe and had left the campus.

“Emergency crews are on scene of a fire at Welti Elementary. All students are safe and have left for the day,” read the press release issued from Cullman County Schools. “The fire/smoke is in the K1 building. The main building is not affected.”

In an update issued at 4:55 p.m., the school system said classes would be canceled Wednesday and Thursday to allow for building cleanup.

“There is no major damage but Servpro will need at least 48 hours to work on the facility,” Cullman County Schools stated.

The main school building was not affected, according to the school system.
