BREMEN, Ala. – The Sasquatch 5K Mud Run, formerly known as the Stony Lonesome 5K Mud Run, will take place this Saturday, May 9, at 8 a.m. at Stony Lonesome OHV Park.
Cullman County Parks and Recreation Marketing Director Sara Morgan said the department has been hosting the Mud Run since 2015, and there is nothing else like it locally.
“The Stony Lonesome Mud Run consists of miles of muddy fun and we also feature obstacles at multiple spots along the course,” Morgan said. “This is where mud and mayhem come together. Runners will grind their way through the challenging course, which will feature crawling through grimy mud, climb(ing) over high walls, splash(ing) across a wooden bridge and travers(ing) through obstacles packed throughout this muddy course. With spectators cheering, this event will surely be a memorable experience for anyone daring to take on the Stony Lonesome Mud Run.”
Morgan said they typically have around 300 runners every year. The top male and female runners will receive a $25 gift card to Academy Sports.
“We have a couple of obstacles, but you can always choose to bypass if you’re not comfortable in doing them,” Morgan said. “We also have a 1-mile fun run if you’re not up to the 5K distance.”
The race is $30 now and will be $40 on race day. Runners can choose between the 1-mile fun run or the 5K distance when registering.
“This is the ONLY event of its kind locally- Playing in the mud is always a fun time,” Morgan said. “My favorite thing about this race is the mud! Participants run through some pretty deep nasty mud at times, and then to see them finish through the mud slide is triumphant! When they walk back to the top Sasquatch is there cheering them on getting some great muddy photos.”
Stony Lonesome OHV Park is located at 10075 Alabama Highway 69 in Bremen.
“We will have Mud Run shirts available for purchase if you missed the T-shirt deadline,” Morgan said. “Registration will be open at 6 a.m. the day of the race. We can’t wait to see everyone there.”
