Jimmy Edward Hampton, age 72, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026. Born on July 26, 1953, he was the son of the late Hurley and Lois Hampton.
As a child, known as “Eddie,” he was full of energy – rambunctious, a little mischievous, and always ready with a laugh. That joyful spirit stayed with him throughout his life. As an adult, “Jim” was deeply loved and widely respected. Steady as a rock and loyal beyond measure, Reverend Jim Hampton lived out the love of Jesus in both word and deed. He was known for his warm sense of humor, his ability to bring smiles to those around him, and his genuine kindness. Dependable and generous, he was always willing to lend a helping hand. His life was marked by compassion, service, and a sincere love for people.
Jim is survived by the love of his life, his devoted wife, Renea Benefield Hampton. They were united in marriage on March 30, 1974, and shared more than five decades of love, faith and unwavering commitment. He also leaves behind his cherished children, Shane (Katrina) Hampton and Kellie Hampton. He was a proud and loving “Pawpaw” to Hunter Cason, Solomon Cason, Landon Waldrep, Austyn (Raven) Hampton, Tyler Hampton, and Emilee Hampton, each of whom brought him immense joy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven siblings: Helen Holloway, Herbert “Red” Hampton, Dorothy Miller, Daryl Hampton, Olean Harper, Clara Faith Hampton and Joan Bryant. He is survived by his brother, Lester (Janice) Hampton, and his sister, Bernice (Donnie) Lambert, alone with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who were blessed to know him.
A faithful servant of God, Bro. Hampton served as Assistant Pastor of Cornerstone Revival Center – formerly Eva United Pentecostal Church-since 1989. His life was a testament to his deep love for the Lord, and he touched countless lives through his ministry, kindness, and steadfast faith.
Jim honorably served his country in the National Guard and Reserves. He also dedicated many years of his professional life as a store manager, beginning with the Big K, TG&Y and later spending the majority of his career with Warehouse Discount Groceries, where he was respected for his strong work ethic and leadership. He gave many young people their first job and mentored them along the way.
Jimmy Edward Hampton leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and integrity that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Serving as pall bearers will be Austyn Hampton, Solomon Cason, Landon Waldrep, Tyler Hampton, Chase Rigdon and David Lockhart.
