Obituary: Mary Ruth Flanigan

Mary Ruth Flanigan was born on July 31, 1940, in Cullman County, Alabama, to the late Earl and Ruthie Mae Sims. She peacefully departed this life and was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. She was one of six children born to her loving parents.

Mary Ruth joined Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church at an early age, where she remained a faithful member. She worked in various industries throughout Cullman, Alabama, and later retired from Americold Compressors.

Mary Ruth found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved relaxing in her rocking chair, watching her church service and game shows, and spending time working on Seek-and-Find word puzzles. Above all, she cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren & great-grandchildren, who brought her immense happiness.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Floyd Flanigan; her son, Floyd “Tweet” Flanigan; grandsons, Jerome Flanigan and Xavier “Tez” Malcom; great-grandson, Dezmond Rickmond; and her sisters, Bertha Lee Flanigan, Betty Ann Sims, and Josephine Robertson.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving children: Sylvia (Albert) Turner, Anthony Flanigan, Vanessa (Rick) Flanigan, Delphine (Eric) Powell, Jennifer (Albert) Twitty, and Yaminah (Reginald) Ward; 21 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Earl Sims Jr. and Eleanor Fields; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.

Mary Ruth will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
