CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City School Board opened its meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at East Elementary School by recognizing employees and students for their achievements.
Lexi Collins, a paraprofessional who joined East Elementary this school year and works with special education students, was recognized for her hard work and impact.
The board also recognized certified employee Ms. Faulk, who began teaching at East Elementary in 1990. After teaching third grade for 12 years and fourth grade for 16 years, she transitioned six years ago into a reading, math and intervention role.
East Elementary students Jesse and Kayleigh Tanner were also celebrated for their artwork featured in the 2026 State Superintendent’s Visual Arts Exhibit. Jesse Tanner earned second place in the third- and fourth-grade two-dimensional division for his painting, “My Best Friend.” Kayleigh Tanner was named Best of Show in the elementary two-dimensional acrylic division for her piece, “My Favorite Place.”
The December 2025 financial report was presented, marking the end of the first quarter of the fiscal year. Revenues were reported at 32% and expenditures at 26.25%, figures that are typical for this time of year due to the collection of ad valorem taxes. The system reported a $13.9 million fund balance and approximately four months of reserves in the general fund. December sales tax collections were up 6% compared to the previous year, but January and February collections are trending lower. Ad valorem tax revenue is up 3%, which the board said may help offset any sales tax declines.
Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff also recognized several schools honored at a recent Alabama State Board of Education meeting in Montgomery. The counseling programs at Cullman City Primary School, West Elementary, Cullman Middle School and Cullman High School were named Programs of Distinction. He noted that February is National School Counseling Month and Career and Technical Education Month, highlighting the district’s career-tech offerings and the ongoing construction of a $13.5 million facility at Cullman High School.
Kallhoff encouraged families to prioritize attendance as students prepare for the upcoming ACT and ACAP state assessments.
The next regular board meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 17, at 5 p.m. at the district’s main office.
