Obituary: Stephen William Weissend

Retired U.S N. Sailor Stephen William Weissend of Vinemont, Alabama completed his Earthly Voyage on Jan.31, 2026. He was 77 years old. He was born on Dec. 7, 1948, in Cullman, Alabama. 
 
Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is honored to serve the Weissend family. 
 
A memorial service will be held for Mr. Weissend on Tuesday, February 3,2026, at 2 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home, with Bro. John Garrison officiating. Visitation will held prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home. 
 
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Ruth Weissend, and his brothers, Phillip and Douglas Weissend, all from Cullman, Alabama. 
 
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Catherine, and his two daughters, Cynthia Bilbo of Texas and Wendy Sareini of Virginia, his sister, Linda Boike of Cullman, Alabama, and his brother, Daniel Weissend of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He has 11 Grandchildren, and 15 Great Grandchildren, with 1 on the way. 

After graduating Cullman High School in 1966, Stephen’s military career of 22.5 yrs began in 1968 and commenced in 1989. Following the military, he continued working as an aircraft mechanic until his second retirement in 2014 after 22 yrs. 

He will be fondly remembered as a hardworking man who loved his cars, fishing, yardwork, and working around the house. He took pride in everything he did. He will be greatly missed.
