CULLMAN, Ala. – The North Alabama Agriplex will host a Farm Kids Club program, “Herbal Remedies for Kids, by Kids,” on Saturday, Jan. 10, from 10-11:30 a.m. This program provides children ages 5 and up with a hands-on introduction to herbal wellness. Sponsored by Riverwood Farms, the class is part of the Agriplex’s monthly Farm Kids Club series, which focuses on engaging, educational topics ranging from nature and gardening to cooking and creative skills.
“Farm Kids Club is a fun and interactive class for children ages 5 and up,” said Samantha Catland, manager of Youth & Kitchen Programming at the Agriplex. “Each month focuses on a new topic, such as animals, nature, gardening, cooking or art and it’s held one Saturday a month at the North Alabama Agriplex.”
During the January session, participants will explore several common herbs and their uses in simple, kid-friendly remedies. The class will conclude with a hands-on activity where students create their own tea blends using the herbs they’ve learned about.
“Students and their adults will get a hands-on experience learning a valuable, practical skill that will hopefully inspire healthy habits and an appreciation for all things handcrafted,” she said.
The workshop will be led by Betsy Bayard and Patti Zoppi, longtime friends and homeschool mothers with a shared interest in herbal education. Zoppi is a certified herbalist, while Bayard brings years of hands-on experience as an herbal enthusiast.
The cost to participate is $15 per child, with one accompanying adult admitted at no additional charge. The higher fee reflects the cost of supplies needed for the herbal activities.
