GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Good Hope City Council on Monday, Dec. 8, revisited earlier agreements regarding a subdivision off Leonard Road.

The council noted it previously promised nearby residents that Leonard Road would remain closed to subdivision traffic. Requests have been made to reopen the access, but the decision was made to have it remain closed to subdivision traffic to prevent congestion and possible safety issues.

The long-term possibility of aligning Leonard Road with a nearby traffic light was discussed, though the project would require purchasing land and extensive site work.

There have been renewed discussions with Love’s Travel Stop representatives regarding a potential traffic signal at Stewart Road and County Road 222. The project had come to a halt due to permitting constraints, but Love’s has stated it is interested in revisiting the plan.

Other updates included minor bridge repairs near Municipal Park, progress on Medical Drive improvements funded through a U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant and ongoing discussions about future residential development.

The City is finalizing preparations for Good Hope Christmas in the Park, set for this Saturday, Dec. 13. The theme is “Country/Cowboy Christmas.” Residents are encouraged to wear Western attire. The parade begins at 2 p.m. at the high school and will end at Municipal Park. All food and activities, including crafts, wagon rides, a petting zoo, s’mores and photos with Santa, will be offered free of charge.
