CULLMAN, Ala. – Students at East Elementary School had a chance to create their own lockers — digitally — as part of an innovative project using design software and artificial intelligence art creation tools.
The project allowed some fifth and sixth grade students the opportunity to create and decorate their own “digital lockers” using the design software Canva. Students took a survey to identify their interests and personality, then used images, clip art and text to design and decorate their lockers.
Students were able to add images of the books they enjoy reading, and also used an AI tool within Canva called “magic media” to create an AI avatar of themselves.
“This is a great way to expose students to AI without it being related to actual content of a subject matter,” Savannah Wood, library media specialist at East Elementary School, explained.
The Library Media Center at East Elementary School reaches hundreds of students with access to books, media programs and projects to help them reach their potential in acquiring and developing skills in information gathering and literature selection, while deepening their creative thinking skills and idea building.
