DODGE CITY, Ala. – The Dodge City Town Council held its monthly meeting on Aug. 14, discussing finances, road projects and park maintenance plans.
The council said the August financial report showed a general account balance of $418,004.96, with the half-cent road fund at $56,002.87, the HB2 gas fees account at $70,095.60 and the capital improvement fund unchanged at $43,009.17.
The council approved the purchase of a tractor with a boom cutter for $60,000, the surplus of equipment and the allocation of $42,020 for road repairs.
Road maintenance discussions focused on repairs to multiple roads, including County Roads 216, 239, 233; Gaston; and Campbell, with major work planned for Park Road. The council reported that estimated costs for Park Road repairs exceeded $190,000, prompting the council to seek separate bids for drainage and paving work. They said funding will come from the HB2 gas account and capital improvement funds, totaling $171,006, to complete work in late October or early November, ahead of the Town’s annual Christmas in the Park event. Safety measures, including warning signs and potential park closures during repairs, were also reviewed.
Other topics included certificates of election (separate story coming), renewal of an emergency services contract and discussion on long-term park improvements. Plans to possibly convert a basketball court into a pickleball court were postponed until next year.
