CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Public Library Board met Friday, approving financial reports, discussing ongoing projects and recognizing the success of ongoing programs.

The library’s financial statements were approved, and the board said the budget remains in good shape. Recent upgrades have been completed, and all spending is on track.

The board approved a request to release previously allocated County funds to support the upcoming library expansion. The funds will be placed in an interest-bearing account while project plans are finalized.

A five-year strategic plan with goals for each branch was adopted, as was the renewal of the annual $6,000 contract for the digital book service used across the system.

Additional items included a request for an increased City appropriation, a new key fob system to improve security and participation in federal funding programs.

The board said the summer season has seen strong attendance and participation in library events. Thousands of new cards have been issued, community member attendance has grown at events and nearly 200,000 minutes have been logged in the summer reading challenge.

The library’s capital campaign is gaining traction with community donations and fundraisers. A temporary closure of the Colony branch due to staffing was also discussed, with efforts underway to reopen with volunteer help.

The Cullman County Public Library System has five branches: downtown Cullman, Garden City, Hanceville, Holly Pond and Colony. Get more info at www.ccpls.com/branches.html.

The next board meeting will be Thursday, Aug. 21, at noon at the Cullman County Public Library downtown.
