Garry Edgar Hooper, age 71, of Huntsville, Alabama, crossed the finish line of life on October 20, 2026, surrounded by family.

He was born August 30, 1955, in Cullman, AL, to Eugene and Virginia Hooper.

He graduated from Fairview High School in 1973. He attended the University of Alabama I Tuscaloosa and Huntsville. He received his associates degree in Radiologic Technology at Wallace State Community College. He retired from Huntsville Hospital after many years of service.

Garry had a love for the roar of engines, the smell of burnt rubber, and the thrill of a Sunday race. Whether camping in the infield of Talladega Superspeedway or cheering from his garage for Dale Earnhardt or Jimmy Johnson, Garry lived his life in the fast lane.

He never missed a green flag, always knew the exact tire strategy before the announcers did, and firmly believed that life – like a good short track race – is best lived with courage, grit, and a little bit of drafting.

When not watching racing, Garry loved listening to music with a cold beer in hand or imaging patients in a CT scanner or Cardiac Cath Lab.

He was known for his work ethic, mischievous laugh, stubborn streak, and generous heart.
Garry is survived by his wife of eleven years, Candice, his son, Casey (Kathryn) Hooper of Texas; stepson, Cole Lindsay of Huntsville; sisters, Sherri (Don) Moseley of Decatur, Kim (Eddie) Howse of Cullman, Wanda (David) Bawsel of Decatur, grandson, Connor Hooper of Fort Worth, TX; many nieces and nephews; and loving dog, Frazier.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Timmy.
