Longtime readers of David Baldacci know that he released a new character and series last fall.
The first book, “Nash Falls,” introduces the main character, Walter Nash, a hardworking investment banker who follows the rules — though some might consider him a bit boring. His wife, Judith, frequently refers to him as an “Eagle Scout,” while their 19-year-old daughter, Maggie, aspires to be an influencer.
Nash works for Sybaritic Investments, a multibillion-dollar firm he eventually discovers is involved in illegal ventures.
Before the suspense begins, Nash and his family attend the funeral of his father. Nash and his father have been estranged since he was 14 years old. There are several strangers plus a few bikers from his father’s time in Vietnam at the funeral. The spokesperson for the group speaks at the funeral, where he berates and insults Nash. Nash finds out later that this was at the request of his father.
Later that night Nash is visited by a FBI agent. The FBI wants him to find evidence that Sybaritic is involved in money laundering with China and Russia. He can either get information about his boss and his boss’ boss or go down with the ship when the feds make an arrest. Nash has to reinvent himself into a fighting machine to help his daughter and save his reputation.
“Nash Falls” is a fast-paced novel with a lot of intrigue and danger. The book leaves much unanswered. But, the sequel was published a few months ago!
