The Cullman County Public Library will host a Community Plant Swap on Saturday, Aug. 29, from noon-12:30 p.m. (CCPL)

CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Public Library will host a Community Plant Swap on Saturday, Aug. 29, from noon-12:30 p.m.

Assistant Director Shelby Creekmore said the event was planned by a local individual, but the library is happy to play host for such a fun event.

“Danielle Holder put this event idea together and reached out to us on Facebook,” Creekmore said. “We’re proud to host this program and hope it brings people together.”

Holder said the theme is “Bring a plant — take a plant” and she is excited to host the event at the library for a third time after a great turnout previously.

“The first time we had this event was in February of this year and I have put it together every three months,” Holder said. “The idea came after I took up gardening as a hobby. I enjoy being outside and houseplants. I wanted more plants, but didn’t have the budget for it. I thought that other people may feel the same so I created a flyer.”

She said she didn’t know where to host the event and the library came to mind.

“Since this would be a free community event, I figured the library wouldn’t mind and so far things have been great,” Holder said. “I didn’t get a precise count, but I know at least 30 or more people showed up. I enjoy these events because it brings people together that share the same interests. It is like a book or craft club but for plant people.”

In Holder’s spare time, she is a pre-K teacher and she said she enjoys nurturing tiny humans and gardening goes along with that.

“You have to know what the plant needs in order for it to grow,” Holder said. “I love people in the community growing together in a common interest group.”
