CULLMAN, Ala. – Fairview High School student Jesslyn White is using her new state pageant title to support children entering foster care in Cullman County.
White, a rising sophomore, was recently crowned 2026 Junior Miss Alabama Princess and selected foster care as the community-service platform for her reign. The books will be given to children as they enter foster care.
White presented the donation to Cullman County DHR Director Amy Smith, who provided information about the project to The Cullman Tribune.
White selected foster care as the community-service platform for her reign after receiving a 2026 Little Miss Alabama princess title in the Junior Miss division.
The Little Miss Alabama program separates contestants into age divisions and crowns both queens and princesses. Titleholders are encouraged to select an issue important to them and use their reigns to participate in charitable projects and community appearances.
White said she hopes the coloring books provide children with comfort and a positive activity during what may be a difficult transition.
Her plans extend beyond the initial donation. White is working to create her own coloring book for children in foster care and plans to donate copies once the project is complete.
She also hopes to organize a tea party for girls in foster care and serve as a mentor to children who have goals and dreams of their own.
“Cullman County DHR would like to extend a giant ‘thank you’ to Jesslyn for her heart for foster children and for putting that heart work into action,” the department said in information provided by Smith.
Alabama DHR reports that approximately 5,700 children are currently in foster care across the state. Some children remain in care only briefly, while others require longer placements as they await reunification with their families or another permanent arrangement.
County DHR offices administer foster care and other social-service programs at the local level with support from the state agency. Alabama DHR’s directory identifies Smith as director of the Cullman County office.
In addition to her pageant activities, White is a majorette with the Fairview High School marching band. She plans to attend the University of Alabama and hopes to become a Crimsonette.
White intends to continue supporting children in foster care throughout her reign while encouraging girls to pursue ambitious goals.
