Jean Wynn, of Cullman, AL, passed away Monday, July 6. She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Arvel J Wynn, and her parents, Lonnie and Bell McGriff of Cullman County. She is survived by her two sons, Gary Wynn and Randy Wynn; three grandchildren, Tracy Wynn, Kristy Wynn and Lance Wynn; and five great grandchildren, Savannah, Rebecca, Abbie, Ellie, and Silas. She is also survived by her sister, Ellen Carroll, and her brother, Curtis “Sonny” McGriff.
Jean was an Air Force wife who traveled with her husband Arvel to duty stations all over the US. She also accompanied Arvel on and extended assignment in the Philippines. They retired to their hometown Cullman after more than 40 years of military service.
Jean was devoted to her family enjoyed spending time with her 2 brothers and 2 sisters. She was an attentive grandmother and often planned special time with them. She loved to baby sit small children and devoted many hours to them.
Jean also loved gardening, as well as outdoor activities, such as pheasant hunting in South Dakota with her husband, sons and lifelong friends they made while stationed at Ellsworth AFB. Family often tell a particular story where Jean went hunting antelope in the South Dakota plains only to come home with a black eye after forgetting to tuck that gun securely on her shoulder before shooting at an antelope.
Jean also had a reputation as a scary driver. You will have to ask her grandchildren for more details!
Jean leaves a great deal of family and many friends. She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held at Moss-Service Funeral Home, 1901 2nd Ave North West, Cullman, AL 35055, on July 11, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Funeral Service will follow at Moss-Service Funeral Home on July 11, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Committal Service will be held at Cullman City Cemetery, 9th St SW, Cullman, AL 35055, on July 11, 2026, from 12 p.m. until 12:45 p.m.
