HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Wallace State Community College Department of Nursing Education is launching a new summer camp for elementary school students interested in science and healthcare. This interactive event will be conducted by nursing students and faculty with themed stations to allow students to discover more about the art and science of nursing and other science and healthcare fields.

Little Lifesavers Camp sessions will be held on July 15 for students entering second, third and fourth grades and on July 16 for students entering fifth and sixth grades. The camp will be held from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. each day. Students will bring their own lunch, snacks and water. Cost for the camp is $15 per student or $10 for Wallace State employees and children of current WSCC Nursing students. Register at www.wallacestate.edu/nursing.

“We’re thrilled to offer a summer experience that invites young students to explore the worlds of science, healthcare and even art in a fun, hands-on way,” said Deborah “Pepper” Hoover, chair of the Department of Nursing Education. “Each themed station is designed to spark curiosity — whether a child loves numbers, creativity or learning how the body works.

“It’s also a meaningful opportunity for our nursing students, who will build leadership and communication skills as they guide and mentor campers throughout the day,” Hoover added. “This camp brings learning to life for everyone involved, and we hope it inspires future scientists, healthcare professionals and artists alike.”
