HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Wallace State Lady Lions, after sweeping Coastal Alabama – South in their final home series of the season, traveled to Bay Minette to take on the Coyotes again in the final two games of the regular season on Sunday.
GAME ONE: WSCC 12, CACC 0 (Five Innings)
Behind a five inning no-hitter from Madeline Howard, the Lady Lions’ offense was given an easy task to seal a win: score. They did just that, bringing home four runs in the first, then adding eight more in the fourth to eventually mercy rule the Coyotes, 12-0, after the fifth inning.
Third baseman Kenley Vaughn tied for a team lead with two hits on the afternoon in three plate appearances, highlighted by a double. Leading the team in total offense was second baseman Reese Decker, who scored twice herself and drove in two runs.
GAME TWO: WSCC 12, CACC 4 (Six Innings)
While starting pitcher Ava Smith gave up seven hits in her four innings, only two earned runs crossed the plate, with the other two coming as a result of errors. The Lady Lions, similarly to game one, scored in droves, with two five-run innings pushing them to a 12-4 win to conclude the regular season.
At the plate, right fielder Blakelyn Austin starred, going 3-3 with two RBIs and two runs. Catcher Brooklynn Sertell, who’s hit .503 on the season with 23 home runs, made five plate appearances but drew walks each time.
Conference Tournament
With the two away wins, Wallace State wrapped the regular season up with a 43-10 record (26-6 conference) and will ride into the ACCC Tournament on a nine game heater. The tournament will take place from May 14-16 at Veterans Park in Alabaster.
The Lady Lions earned the no. 2 spot on the bracket and a bye round, and are set to take on the winner of Shelton State vs. Coastal Alabama – South on Thursday at 2 p.m.
