CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Mayor Woody Jacobs has proclaimed April 12–18, 2026  Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in the city of Cullman, recognizing the critical role emergency dispatchers play in protecting lives and property across the community.

Public Safety Telecommunicators serve as the first point of contact during emergencies, answering calls, gathering vital information and dispatching police, fire and emergency medical services quickly and accurately. Their work ensures that first responders have the information they need to act decisively while also maintaining constant communication to support responder safety in the field.

Communications Assistant Director Taylor England accepted the proclamation on behalf of the city’s Communications Department, which is led by Director Danny Cain and staffed by 17 dedicated professionals. Together, the team operates the city’s emergency communications center around the clock, serving as a critical link between the public and emergency services.

“Public Safety Telecommunicators are often the unseen first responders,” said Jacobs. “Their calm, professionalism, and ability to gather and relay life-saving information make a real difference in emergencies. We are grateful for their service to our community.”

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is observed each year during the second full week of April and honors the dedication of emergency communications personnel across the country. Established in 1981, the week recognizes the vital role telecommunicators play within the public safety system and helps raise awareness of the critical, life-saving work they perform every day.

The proclamation highlights the essential role telecommunicators play in supporting law enforcement, fire suppression and emergency medical care. Over the past year, Cullman’s dispatchers have demonstrated compassion, understanding and professionalism while handling high-pressure situations that directly impact the safety of both residents and first responders.

The City of Cullman encourages residents to recognize and thank the Communications Department team during Public Safety Telecommunicators Week for their dedication and service.
