GOOD HOPE, Ala. – Good Hope hired Cory Meyer to be their new basketball coach on March 19th. He took over for Mitch Morris, who coached the team last year. He was an assistant coach for 14 years and was an assistant under his dad, Bobby Meyer at Cullman and West Morgan, and at Decatur High School under Kori Walker.

“My dad has always been my biggest influence and reason I became a coach. I have been in a basketball gym with him since I was in the third grade. Just seeing what all goes into being a basketball coach, how to implement your system in a program, and the impact the position allows you to have on young people is something I plan to take to Good Hope from my dad. Kori Walker has become a great friend since I joined his staff at Decatur. We share a lot of the same philosophies, so having him to share ideas with is invaluable,” Meyer said.

Coach Meyer is going to a school that has great basketball tradition, with plenty of trophies in their trophy cases, and he’s going to bring a lot of things to Good Hope and their community.

“Good Hope has great basketball tradition. They have consistently been at the top of Cullman County and competing for area titles over the last decade. The foundation has been set by Drew Adams and others for this program to have a ton of success,” Meyer said. “We are going to play an exciting brand of basketball. We will play an uptempo style that tries to maximize the number of possessions in a basketball game. I hope it’s a style that our community gets behind because of the effort our guys play with. I also look forward to the relationships that are to be made within our youth and middle school programs, as I want them to be an extension of our program at the high school.”

Coach Meyer will have a lot of players back from last year’s team and is looking forward to seeing what they can do this upcoming season, and he’s ready to get everything put together for the 2026-2027 season. He wants to see them grow as not only basketball players but as even better people off the court.

“I’m just excited about the journey for this team and the ability to impact their life in a positive way. Each new season brings new challenges, and I’m just excited for the opportunity to maximize this group’s potential,” he said. “I’m just ready for the work, putting this team together, and allowing these kids an opportunity to grow as basketball players on and off the court. They will all play a final basketball game, but it’s how we use the game of basketball to make them become better people within our community.”

God also played a huge role in helping him land the job, and he wouldn’t be where he’s at today without Him.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without God. I believe this opportunity is truly God’s timing, and I hope that I’m able to use my testimony to guide young people in the Good Hope community.”
