BERLIN, Ala. – Due to weather conditions on March 16, the Berlin Town Council rescheduled its monthly meeting to March 23. There were no public comments at this meeting and the council approved last month’s minutes before moving on to news about Christmas in the town.

“I have a surprise,” Mayor Patrick Bates told the council.

He advised he spoke to Cullman Electric Cooperative regarding affixing lit Christmas decorations to power poles and found an agreement from January 2000 that allows lights to be hung on the poles.

Bates said he counted roughly 20 poles and asked council members if they would motion to approve if he agreed not to exceed more than $10,000 for the purchase of Christmas light decorations for Berlin.

He added that he found a company offering discounts on lights ranging from 5 feet or taller. The Co-Op would assemble them, he said, but he stated he will discuss it further and keep the council updated.

“Sounds like a winner,” Councilman Keith Hardman stated.

Hardman motioned to approve, and Councilman Steve Clark seconded.

Resolution No. 2026-002 regarding bush hogging and mowing of town property was approved.

On the topic of paving projects, Bates told the council paving would ideally start on April 2 and end, at the latest, July 20. He advised it could be done in June, though, as a rainy April is expected.

The next Berlin Town Council meeting will be on Monday, April 20, at 7 p.m. at Berlin Town Hall.  For additional information, contact Town Clerk Kierstyn Montgomery at 256-736-3138 or clerk@berlinal.gov.
