HOLLY POND, Ala. – The decision that Boston Gibbs would be the Holly Pond Broncos starting quarterback in 2025 came just days before their first game.

A senior, Gibbs had traditionally played running back and wide receiver, and with just days of learning the system under his belt, he delivered the game of a lifetime in week two vs. Hanceville. Throwing the ball, he connected on four passes for 135 yards and a touchdown, plus two two-point conversions. On the ground, Gibbs rushed for 280 yards on 17 attempts and crossed the goal line seven times, making him directly responsible for 59 of Holly Pond’s 74 points in the rout of the Bulldogs.

The performance garnered state-wide attention, earning him the AHSAA Football Spotlight for the week. The Broncos’ offense continued to be electric through Gibbs, averaging 30.6 points per game.

At the next level, Gibbs will get the chance to be part of another electric offense after signing his letter of intent to join the Ottawa University Arizona Spirit this morning at Holly Pond High School. It’s a cross-country jump for Gibbs, who will continue his football career over 1700 miles away from home.

“This decision was weighing on me for a little while, debating if I was good enough or if it was worth it, but I had many people- parents, coaches friends and especially my paw paw who kept harping on me that it wasn’t time to give it up. Mostly, everyone preaching that it’s something I shouldn’t give up because there aren’t many people who get the opportunity to go to the next level- that it’s a blessing to be able to keep chasing something I love. God has given me not only the ability, but the opportunity to keep doing what I love, so I should always chase it,” he said on the signing.

His skillset looks to be a perfect fit for the Spirit, who finished the season ranked 11th in the NAIA division behind a fast-paced spread offense with quarterback Luke Giron, a 6-foot dual-threat similar to Gibbs.

Gibbs is the latest of a handful of 2025 Broncos to get the opportunity to play at the next level, with defensive lineman Cade Allbright signing with Murray State in December and Braden Ivey signing to play offensive line at Morehead State in January.
