Library board meeting notes: March 19

    CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Public Library Board met on March 19 to approve routine business items and receive updates on library operations, grants and facility improvements. 

    The board approved the adoption of the previous meeting minutes and financial reports for December and January as well as the purchase and installation of a new air compressor at a cost of $9,000. The expense will be funded by cashing out two certificates of deposit from Alabama Credit Union.  

    During informational reports, the library announced it received a $4,000 Slice of Literacy grant from the Pizza Hut Foundation to support STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) programming. The system was also awarded $16,000 through Cullman Electric Cooperative and the Tennessee Valley Authority to fund two interactive computer boards for branch locations, additional books and a subscription to ABCmouse.  

    An update was also provided on restroom renovations at the Cullman branch, which are nearing completion. 

    Library statistics showed continued usage in January and February. In January, the library issued 150 new cards, hosted 28 programs with 339 attendees and recorded 4,012 books checked out. In February, 160 new cards were issued, 41 programs were held with 693 attendees and 4,964 books were checked out. Additional usage included e-books, audiobooks, public computers and Wi-Fi sessions across both months. 

    The next Cullman County Public Library Board meeting is Friday, April 17, at 11 a.m.
