Jackson’s cross (The Jackson Conway Foundation)

Along Interstate 65 in Evergreen, Alabama, you will notice a 120-foot-tall cross. All crosses have a story and all long to be heard. There are likely many you see on your drive home or throughout your daily routine. The stories may be unfamiliar to you, or maybe some you know of personally.

This cross has a message of hope and pure innocence.

Jackson Conway passed away in March 2021 from Ewing Sarcoma. This is a rare form of bone cancer that develops in bones or soft tissues. It primarily affects children and young adults from 10 to 20 years old.

“When approached by wish-granting organization in 2018, Jackson requested a large steel cross to be placed alongside the interstate in his home town for people to be reminded of the Lord’s faithfulness and encourage people through life’s difficulties,” reads a passage on the website for The Jackson Conway Foundation.

The steel cross was erected for all to see in early March 2026. Of all things he could have wished for at age 17, Jackson chose to bless the masses through a cross on a busy interstate.
