WEST  POINT, Ala. – Richard Barnett, a longtime member of the West Point community, is a Republican candidate for the Cullman County Commission, District 2.

“I grew up on a cattle and chicken farm – so I know what work is,” Barnett said. “I’ve worked in a machine shop as a machinist, on an oil rig in Louisiana for eight years, and now I’ve worked in warehouse distribution for 18 years – and about 14 of those years were in management. For six years, I was an operations manager. After that I ran and operated two convenience stores, one being the West Point Superette, for 16 years.”

On why he’s running for Cullman County Commission, District 2, Barnett said, “I want our community to be more proactive, making sure to have better communication with the public on road construction. Also, I want to make sure we are supporting law enforcement. Last, I think we are missing an opportunity by not asking companies in Cullman to help out even more with our local schools.”

Barnett has years of experience in industry and business, including working with Walmart Distribution, Books-A-Million and OfficeMax over the past two decades, as well as through small business ownership.

“I have been married this June for 25 years and Michelle and I have raised four fantastic kids,” Barnett said. “(Our) two oldest have served in the military. As of today, we have eight grandchildren – four boys and four girls.  We live in the West Point community. We belong (to) and have attended West Point First Baptist Church for the last 30 years.”
