CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Public Library received a $4,000 Slice of Literacy Grant from the Pizza Hut Foundation to support local literacy initiatives and expand educational programming. Library officials said the funding will help expand the library’s STEAM program, which focuses on science, technology, engineering, art and math.

“We are very appreciative of the Pizza Hut Foundation and our local Pizza Hut team for their support in making our community better,” said Cullman County Public Library System Assistant Director Shelby Creekmore. “We are excited to use these funds to purchase equipment and materials for our STEAM program.”

Creekmore said the funding will allow the library to expand an already successful program and foster a love of learning among students. Many of the students who participate in the library’s STEAM program are homeschooled and may not otherwise have access to certain technology or resources. The grant will aid in continuing to promote literacy and learning opportunities for students throughout Cullman County.

The Slice of Literacy Grant supports the Pizza Hut Foundation’s goal to grow the reach of the Pizza Hut Book It! reading program through additional literacy-focused efforts. The Book It! program, which has encouraged young readers for more than 40 years, promotes literacy nationwide through customer donations and partnerships with local organizations.
