CULLMAN, Ala. – The Art Shop Around the Corner hosted a special art exhibition on Sunday, March 1, showcasing work from several local artists, including adult art class students, who shared their work with friends and family. Guests also enjoyed live music and refreshments.
“It started as a chance for my students to showcase their work,” Owner Pam Willingham said. “I wanted to give them the opportunity to meet the public and gain confidence in presenting their art.”
The exhibition featured a variety of artistic styles and media. Pieces on display included Willingham’s recent collage work, oil paintings, charcoal drawings and commissioned works by local artists, some of whom even create custom pieces for clients.
Willingham said the artists featured in the exhibition have all taken part in her classes at some point, except for one she invited after being impressed by his automotive and scrapyard-themed artwork.
Beyond displaying artwork, the event also encouraged collaboration and connection among artists.
“It’s good for artists to be together, to talk and see each other’s work,” Willingham said.
She said events like the exhibition play an important role in supporting the arts community in Cullman by providing local artists an opportunity to share their work and build confidence in their abilities.
“It gives them a chance to show their work and step out as professionals,” said Willingham.
“Sometimes artists struggle to value their own work, so opportunities like this are important.”
