CULLMAN, Ala. – First United Methodist Church hosted the 21st annual Empty Bowls of Cullman County Chili Dinner Monday, Feb. 16. The crowd enjoyed hot chili and grilled cheese sandwiches, live music and more.

The fundraising event for the Cullman Caring for Kids food bank is an annual favorite. This year, Ron Mosely Jr. from WKUL Radio 92.1 was the special guest emcee, introducing musicians prior to their performances.

As Brian Westbrook & the Misfits played, a passerby exclaimed, “I feel like I’m in revival!”

“It’s very community based,” Cullman Caring for Kids Executive Director Steven Sutter said of the event.

The “empty bowls” (handmade pottery bowls) given out to attendees are not only meant to be a reminder of those less fortunate in the world, but also to showcase the talent of local potters, including Sandra Heaven, Joyce Butler, Marie Rhodes, Dorothy Stroud, Mary Ellen Pinion, Lynn Jetton, Patti Bostick, Jeanie Rhodes, Anita Ballew, Ramon Daniel and Carolyn Taylor.

Attendees were fed, and the Bible verse of the night was Matthew 25:35 “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat…”
